The Afghanistan Newsroom of the Harbingers’ Magazine aims to uphold Afghan girls’ fundamental right to education following the Taliban ban on their access to secondary and higher education.
Under this programme, girls aged 13-18 attend weekly online journalism classes in English with Harbingers’ mentor Tamana Jamily, who succeeded Sarah Hussain. The first (2023/24) and second cohorts (2024/25) successfully completed the course, and the 2025/26 cohort consists of 6 students.
The third cohort is organised in collaboration with Farda-e-Roshan, a community-led association founded by Afghan refugee Mohammad Wais Fedaie in response to the Taliban’s tightening restrictions on women and girls.
The organisation works to protect access to education, promote gender equality and support community resilience through educational, cultural and community-based initiatives.
Due to ongoing safety and security concerns in Afghanistan, only the first names of the students are published, and any sensitive information that could put them or their families at risk is withheld.
